mosquito-elimination-methods-5With the welcome arrival of spring comes the unwelcome arrival of mosquitos. Those pesky bloodsuckers aren’t just annoying; thanks to their disease-carrying capabilities, they can also be very dangerous. This is why you must protect yourself and your family from these insects at all times.

There are several repellents for mosquitoes available in a variety of stores. But do you know which ones are effective or what they even do to protect you? Or should you bypass all that and hire a professional pest control expert?

Spray repellents

One of the first lines of defense for many homeowners is the use of sprays to keep mosquitos away. Many of these sprays are designed to be applied to a person’s body and will more or less make the wearer invisible. These types of repellents are best utilized when you’re gathered outside.

Misting systems

When it comes to effective repellents for mosquitoes, some homeowners are turning to systems that spray a mist of poison at scheduled intervals. These systems can cover a large outside area and are great in places where the little bloodsuckers are a prevalent issue. Of course, it should be noted that while the poison is dispersed via a light mist, it might not be advisable if you have pets that might be affected.

Exterior netting

Mosquito netting can be set up outside your home and will immediately stop any mosquito that tries to pass the barrier. It basically acts as a shield against the annoying critters and works great. What’s even better is that designs are available to actually improve the look of your home’s patio, backyard, etc.

Natural repellents

In recent years, there has been a big push to get away from the use of chemicals, whether it’s the extermination of insects, cleaning our floors, or even making our air smell fresh and clean. When it comes to keeping mosquitoes away from you and your family, there are a variety of natural options. For example, if you’re having a cookout, throw some sage or rosemary on the grill. Mosquitoes don’t like that smell and will stay away. Other such disagreeable scents include cat nip or tea tree oil, and raw garlic. Of course, if you’re feeling adventurous, you could invest in some frogs or even try to attracts bats to eat the mosquitoes.

Professional pest control services

Repellents for mosquitoes are great, but as with many insects, there may come a time when you need to seek the help of an expert. Never be too proud to reach out for help. Pest control professionals are well-versed at handling all types of bugs, so if you’re having a problem with mosquitoes, be sure to contact your local exterminator.
